Volunteer(s) needed now!
Without the support of its subscribing members Oxford Centre for Spiritual Growth (OCSG) might well have died when Revd Georgie Simpson, its founder, died in 2020. But it has not, and continues to provide a series of events by influential speakers, and to introduce people to spiritual direction, in its now closer relationship with the ministry team at the Church of St Michael at the North Gate in Oxford. Its ecumenical approach and its mission – to encourage people to explore the deeper meaning of life and the spiritual aspect of what it is to be human – remain the same.
OCSG is now looking for one or more volunteers to help arrange and run our events and keep us in contact with our members. This is an interesting and enjoyable role, working in collaboration with OCSG’s Support/Advisory Group, and the supportive team at St Michael’s.
The role(s) are likely to involve an hour or two a week, with slightly more input as events approach and occur, (there are usually four or five a year). Most of the input can be carried out from home with the use of internet connectivity. Our events are held live at a variety of venues, with parallel streaming to our website. We are particularly looking for assistance in the following areas:
- Publicising and notifying members of forthcoming events – using our email systems
- Helping to develop our use of ‘social media’
- Helping plan events and contacting potential speakers
- Maintaining our website, and monitoring subscription to and attendance at our events – a process operated by our online booking system.
- Additionally, volunteer(s) will be welcome to –
- attend our Support/Advisory Group meetings and help with drafting its minutes.
- attend our events (free of charge) and ensure their smooth running
- develop the mission and continued growth of OCSG
Please contact us if you would like to help or know someone who might
Many thanks

Since Georgie’s death and before, I have carried out these roles myself on a voluntary basis, but age and mobility are beginning to tell, and so we have decided to look for voluntary help and support, to continue to keep the OCSG ‘flag’ flying. I am sure that volunteer(s) will find this role enjoyable and satisfying, engaging as we do, with a wide range of members and speakers at home and abroad, and working in a friendly and supportive environment.
If you are able to help, or know someone who can, please get in touch.
Many thanks
