The Enneagram: Introductory Workshop - 14th January 2012
Josephine Seccombe trained in
1999 with Helen Palmer, author of
The Enneagram in Love and
Work, and has been working with individuals,
small groups and large teams
from the communications industry, the
voluntary sector and
multi-faith groups ever since.
Josephine describes the Enneagram as…..
…..history’s oldest personality system
predating twentieth century psychology
disciplines.
It offers signposts for better self-management,
and more
empathic understanding of others.
So the Enneagram’s enduring value is its ability
to integrate
modern personality theory with spiritual practice.
The
result is a growing ability to stay present, in the NOW,
and to respond to life as it actually happens.
There is also a clearer sense of self, with better
decision making
and more
rewarding relationships.
The diagram was probably drawn by Pythagoras.
The Enneagram is ancient
knowledge currently re-presented and recognised
as the core types familiar to
therapists and spiritual directors.
The model is dynamic –
participants in workshops find themselves on the
circle and appreciate what
this means, both for self management and
for more effective
communication with others.
The benefits of working with
the Enneagram include
- tools for self
awareness
- empathy with
others’ motivation
- understanding of
previous sources of difference
- more productive
team work
- more effective
communication both in personal and professional settings
The object of an introduction
day could be described as a “Chapter One”.
In keeping with the Narrative
Tradition of the Enneagram, participants
will experience the workshop
as a journey of self-discovery.
This introductory day will be
followed by two further days which will deepen our understanding of the
Enneagram.
